Camping....

Back in September we took off for a weekend camping trip with some our friends, the Giddings!  Nate's old roommate and his family.  We were meeting them half way between their house and ours, which ended up being Grand Mesa National Forest.  It's near Grand Junction, and as many times as we have driven by we had no idea how beautiful a place it would be.  It's kinda hidden a few miles off the highway.  When we exited the freeway Nate said, "We better not be camping here!"  It wasn't the prettiest place, lots of cedar trees and dry deserty looking open space.  He was a little worried about my campsite picking skills.

He had nothing to worry about...

This is a view from our campsite.  We were right close to the lake.  Not sure I'd go for this site again, but it was really pretty there!
On Friday evening we arrive to our freshly rained on campsite and friends.  They were soaked, no fun for them!  We quickly made dinner and set up camp.  Then everyone was off to bed in an attempt to get warm.
We pretty much froze during the nights we spent there, and it took until long after breakfast to actually warm up!

Our kids had a blast playing together, and pretty much just ran through the trees finding their own entertainment!  The weather on Saturday was nice and sunny so they were able to get plenty of play time in!
The girls!  These two became instant friends when they met (for the second time, the first was when they were babies) and Brynlee was super excited to see her!
The boys!  These two had lots of fun making bear poison.  They worked hard to keep the bears away with mixtures of water, mud, and whatever else they could fit in the water bottles they had.

My sweet baby!  He handled camping quite well.  Outdoors is one of his favorite places!

Napping baby.

One of the places the kids liked to run.  This was next to our campsite.  I think they had more fun over by the other campsite though!

Me and my handsome hubby!

Gotta make time for reading!

This adorable little guy wanted me to take his picture!  He was pretty awesome at keeping up with the older kids!
When the sun was shining, and we weren't freezing, we had a great time!  We went on a walk, skipped rocks in a lake, explored like crazy, enjoyed some smores and campfire eclairs, and spent time talking and laughing with some good friends.  We even saw a few moose!  So aside from some really cold moments, I'd say it was a successful trip!
Thanks for the fun Giddings family!
